Bluewater Seafood was founded in early 2024 by James Benson with the goal of supplying high quality, sustainably harvested seafood to the United States. As a marine biologist, research scuba diver, and ocean conservationist, James saw a unique opportunity to improve on the harmful practices of mismanaged fisheries and outdated aquaculture operations and focus on sourcing responsibly to ensure the future of healthy marine resources.

Following 6 years on the Maine working waterfront, James moved to San Diego to gain more familiarity with West coast species and business opportunities in the seafood sector. Today, we’re sourcing from around the world to improve access to high quality seafood nationwide, and spread the message that healthy seafood you can feel good about is within reach.
